Disability Support for Staff

The University of Leeds is committed to creating an inclusive, accessible and supportive working environment where disabled colleagues can thrive.

We recognise that people experience disability in different ways and that barriers can exist within workplaces, systems and environments. We are committed to working with colleagues to remove or reduce those barriers and to ensure disabled staff have equitable access to opportunities, support and career development.

Supporting disabled colleagues

We provide support for disabled employees through:

  • workplace adjustments tailored to individual needs
  • accessible and inclusive working practices
  • guidance and support for managers
  • specialist advice from professional services
  • access to disability-related funding, including Access to Work
  • staff networks and wider wellbeing support

Workplace adjustments can include changes to working arrangements, the environment, communication, and the provision of equipment, technology  and support services. Many adjustments are simple and low cost. The University works collaboratively with employees to identify and implement appropriate support.

Applying for a role at Leeds

We welcome applications from disabled people and are committed to ensuring our recruitment processes are accessible and inclusive.

If you need adjustments during recruitment or selection, we will work with you to provide appropriate support and remove barriers wherever possible.

Disabled candidates may also be able to access support through the Government's Access to Work scheme, including support for communication needs at interviews.

Find out more about funding support for workplace adjustments, including the Central Reasonable Adjustments Fund and Access to Work, on our Funding Reasonable Adjustments webpage.
