International Women's Day 2024: Talk from Professor Dame Jane Francis

The Equality and Inclusion Unit (EIU) warmly welcomes colleagues and students to a guest lecture for International Women’s Day 2024 – Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.

The EIU is delighted that Professor Dame Jane Francis, Chancellor of the University of Leeds in an event Chaired and hosted by Professor Julia Bennell, Executive Dean of LUBS, will be delivering a talk to celebrate International Women’s Day. The talk will cover reflections on Professor Dame Jane Francis’ fascinating career in polar sciences and touch on topics such as climate crisis in relation to gender equality.

Professor Dame Jane Francis was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Environment between 2008 and 2013 when she was appointed at the first female Director of the British Antarctic Survey. She was appointed Dame Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (DCMG) in 2017 and was appointed Chancellor of the University of Leeds in 2018.
In 2002 Professor Dame Jane Francis became the fourth woman in history to receive the Polar Medal for her outstanding contribution to British Polar research.
