Learn, acknowledge and celebrate Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic cultures! Leeds11, partners and friends are proud to bring you their celebratory programme for Black History Month 2021.

The programme of events looks to bring everyone on a collective journey of insight. Understanding into the wonderful achievements and success of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) people. Whilst also engaging with key conversations and discourse which is often overlooked.

The theme for Black History Month 2021 is ‘Proud To Be’. Which invites Black and Brown people of all ages throughout the UK to share what they are proud to be. For example: Proud To Be Black, Proud To Be Brown, Proud To Be Black and LGBTQ+, Proud To Be Me.

The collaboration between Leeds11, partners and friends will bring proportionate and adequate recognition to the sentiment and meaning behind Black History Month and this year’s theme. We also want to highlight the value and importance of intersectionality and we ask staff and students to widen their horizons and understand the unique experiences and stories of people who hold multiple characteristics. As well as this, we hope to celebrate a truly amazing Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community who have decided to call the University of Leeds their home.

The Programme of Celebratory events brought to you for Black History Month 2021.
