Windrush Day 2020
- Date
- Monday 22 June 2020
Windrush Day was introduced on 22 June 2018, on the 70th anniversary of the date when hundreds of passengers from the Caribbean arrived to the UK aboard the MV Empire Windrush. Windrush Day is intended to recognise and honour the significant contributions of the Windrush Generation to British social, cultural and political life.
Get involved in Windrush Day
There are several ways you can get involved in marking Windrush Day 2020:
- View the comprehensive Windrush learning resource released by Leeds-based charity the Geraldine Connor Foundation, which combines a mixture of short films, interviews, recipes, reading lists and playlists that can be used to educate yourself or others.
- View the online exhibition hosted by Evewright Arts Foundation (EAF), which features etchings, photographs and interviews of people who volunteered to share their stories. These stories reveal their journeys, their lives in Britain today, the impact of their contribution to British society and the legacy they will each leave behind.
- Listen to the podcasts "The Windrush Generation" and "What does Windrush mean now?"
- Download the official logo and include this in your email signature.
