Film screening ‘Before Stonewall’ and LGBT History Panel

The Staff LGBT Network and Speaking Truth To Power groups are joining for the evening for a screening of the 1984 film Before Stonewall. The film brings together archive footage and interviews to give a rich overview of LGBT culture in the US before the 1969 Stonewall riots.

The film won numerous awards, including Emmy Awards in 1987 for Best Historical/Cultural Programme and Best Research.

Following the film, there will be chance for discussion with Tiffany R Holloman, Social Historian, University of Leeds

With a background in history, (BA, History North Carolina A&T State University; MRes, History, Essex; PhD [pending] Sociology &Social Policy, Leeds) Tiffany’s research spans from Early Modern Europe to U.S. higher education. Her doctoral research examined Black women professors of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States.

Her research interests included the social histories of women from early modern Europe and histories of women in the west through the 1960s. As well as grassroot democracy politics both historical and contemporary.

The film is rated 15, and all attendees should be at or over this age.
