RNIB Transcription

The University has a professional transcription centre on-campus, which is managed in conjunction with the RNIB is based within Disability Services. The centre converts print and inaccessible electronic source files, into alternative formats, including braille (grade 1 or 2), e-text, large print, digital audio or tactile diagrams. All transcription is tailored to individual requirements. In addition, it has access to RNIB Bookshare - an online digital academic collection - which secures files from publishers and other transcription suppliers.

This service does not require DSA/A2W funding and early contact is to be encouraged as it can take time to produce transcription.

Blind or partially-sighted staff members who would find transcription services helpful in the course of their work are welcome to arrange a visit to the centre. You may be asked to make an Access to Work application for funding to cover part or all of the cost of these services. You can contact the transcription centre by email (leedstrans@rnib.org.uk).

The Transcription Service is available to students (and members of staff) at Leeds University who have:

  • a visual impairment (blind or partially sighted)
  • a specific learning difficulty (such as dyslexia)
  • a neurodevelopmental disability (such as autism, ADHD)
  • a physical disability which affects use of printed materials.
